Pricing

Philterd Data Services uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model where you are billed each month for your usage from the previous month plus a flat rate monthly fee. We chose this pricing model because we don't want users to pay for more than what they use.

Pricing Metrics

Redaction pricing is based on two metrics: tokens and redactions.

Documents and datasets submitted for redaction are analyzed by breaking the documents up into individual pieces called tokens. Often, the tokens correspond to individual words in the documents and datasets but not always. For example, the phrase "New York" may be counted as a single token since it represents a thing. However, for simplicity, you can generally think of a token as a word. Philterd Data Services generates the monthly invoice partly based on the number of tokens that were processed in that month.

Redactions are simple - each redaction that is performed on a document or dataset. At the end of the month, the sum of all redactions is calculated and used to generate the invoice.

Philterd Data Services calculates the invoiced amount based on the counts of tokens and redactions for the previous month plus a flat monthly fee.

Pricing Details

Here's how it works.

At the beginning of each month you will be invoiced for your previous month's usage. Your usage is calculated based on your usage of Philterd Data Services, specifically, the following items:

  • Redactions - Each redaction performed in a document has a cost of $0.001. A redaction is the substitution of PII or PHI with another value, regardless of the actual method (anonymization, encryption, etc.) For example, if there are 10 redactions in a document the cost is 10 * $0.001 or $0.01.

  • Token Counts - As documents are processed, they are broken up into individual pieces called tokens. The price per token is $0.00149. A token often corresponds to a single word but not always. This means if you submitted a 500 token document for redaction, the token price would be 500 * $0.00149 = $0.745.

  • Risk Assessments - A risk assessment analyzes an uploaded document for PII and PHI contained in the document. A score is then generated based on your chosen scoring method which represents the risk of PII and PHI in the document. Each risk assessment costs $0.49. So, 10 risk assessments would cost 10 * $0.49 = $4.90.

  • Monthly Fee - Lastly, there is a flat rate monthly fee of $19.95.

Pricing Notes

  • You are not billed for documents or datasets that are not processed. This can happen in instances such as if an uploaded document is not a valid file or if a dataset cannot be accessed.

Pricing Examples

Example 1

If your previous monthly usage was:

  • 200 redactions = 200 * $0.001 = $0.20
  • 1500 tokens = 1500 * $0.00149 = $2.235
  • 20 risk assessments = 20 * $0.49 = $9.80
  • $19.95 monthly fee = $19.95

The invoiced total amount for the previous month would be the sum of each:

$0.20 + $2.235 + $9.80 + $19.95 = $32.19

Example 2

If you did not perform any document redactions or risk assessments in the past month:

  • 0 redactions = 0 * $0.001 = $0.00
  • 0 risk assessments = 0 * $0.49 = $0.00
  • $19.95 monthly fee = $19.95

The invoiced total amount for the previous month would only be the $19.95 monthly fee:

$0.00 + $0.00 + $19.95 = $19.95
